Also, thank you for the shout-out for World Central Kitchen. I happened upon a video of one of their workers today on Twitter and have donated to them. I am also going to see if there are any blankets, food stuffs I can send. As of the writing of this, I have a friend in Poland on the border and another in Ukraine. I am deeply worried for both and for everyone. I have to think though that love and peace will win out in the end. Humanity depends on it.
Heroes reveal themselves in times of great danger to themselves. So many here mentioned that deserve our praise, Zelensky being one, Chef Andres always astonishes me, and I think our level headed, informed, capable President Biden is doing a superb job.
I am so impressed by the Ukrainian people and their leadership. In addition to the people you mentioned there was a man who came across a broken down Russian vehicle complete with several Russian soldiers standing outside of it. He offered to tow them back to Russia. The Ukrainian government even set up a system so the Russians who become their prisoners of war can contact their loved ones at home.
President Zelenskyy has shown extraordinary character and leadership - fighting for his country and showing his people - through media and in being out in public - that he is still there and still doing all he can.
I check the news multiple times a day, holding my breath and fervently hoping as I do that he has not been killed or captured.
I would urge people to read today's interview in Politico of Fiona Hill. As concerned as I've been, she crystallizes the stakes facing the world. Ukraine is the tip of the spear, Putin is just beginning to wreak havoc on the world order. Or as she states, we're already in WWIII, we simply aren't acknowledging the stark reality.
I happened to be on Twitter when Putin's war began.Seeing President Zelenskyy on his phone proclaiming to the world that they had made it through the night made me cry. It has been torture watching the Ukrainian's fight for democracy alone but it appears that the spirit of Zelenskyy fills all of them with hope and promise! He is a champion of the ages!💙💛🌻
I really, really hope Zelenskyy gets through this. He is incredible, and he has so much to teach other state leaders within Europe and outside it. An incredibly good man, and an incredibly talented one, and the best role-model that future leaders could look up to. May lady luck keep him safe.
Have all of you seen President Zelenskyy's many TV appearances (Dancing with the Stars Ukraine, movie trailers, et. al.)? He's so talented (also a lawyer).
