Finally got around to reading the WaPo article, getting more and more agitated as I plowed through this tome of adulation. Glad to hear I'm not the only one repulsed.

Thank you for this video. Whenever I hear comments comparing Jordan to a pitbull or a wrestler on the mat as if this were a plus, I am astounded. The objectives of pitbulls and wrestlers are to take down some one,to win regardless of the other person's character. So how is this a good thing in an arena that is supposed to be about reasoned debate resulting in compromise for the good of the people? Congress is not, like Hercules, wrestling the forces of evil. It's wrestling with ideas and ideals to come up with workable solutions.

The media love Republicans and want them to win. The first step in that endeavor is normalizing their behavior through the use of the one tool in their toolkit: False balance, a.k.a. “bothsideism”. They’ll tell you they do it to show impartiality but that’s bullshit. They do it because they want Republicans to win at all costs. Liberal media? Not in America.

That’s why billionaires buy as much media as possible to control what the masses can read & hear.

I read the article and was disgusted by his “might over right” techniques in wrestling and congress. He only destroys. He does not build. Empathy is not one of his values and he is darn proud of it, in fact, apparently raised by his father that way. Speaking out in defense of the student athletes could likely only be seen by him as acknowledging “their weakness.” What a pitiful and sad child-man Jim Jordan is. The images portrayed are not flattering at all but frankly reveal a grotesque caricature: “Jordan pounced on him and pressed his chest against Schyck’s mouth, crowding it to where he feared he would suffocate” to “ “Small wonder he was such a clawing antagonist” to the many descriptions of obsessive/controlling/evangelical behavior. Could the writers be making a subtle point under all the gloss and puffery?

If you think Gym is a garbage human, imagine the orcs who vote for him.

I had a weird take on it, as a wrestler. My impression is that he was a lousy coach. Also his abuse of the students was way over the top. Good wrestlers learn tactics, balance, moves, defensive counter moves, mental toughness and emotional restraint. its one thing to be aggressive...pure aggression is a one note song. He may have been somewhat successful at it by personally being obsessive about strength and conditioning. But that only gets you into the finals, not winning the final margins. He's very much the Cobra Kai coach from the original Karate Kid. Frankly I would think he would take advantage of steroids, and anything to get an edge. The author of the piece (which I also read) could have made more links to the kinds of threats, and overly aggressive tactics he used which resulted in people doubling down in opposition in the house. Another thing about wrestling. Wrestling does not require team play. It is seldom the cool, popular sport on campus like basketball, or football. Wrestling is a weird niche sport. Wrestler are often the sports nerds on campus. Girls were not attracted to wrestlers (unless they were multisport lettermen) and there usually isn't much presence of cheerleading.

But also when some people think of wrestling, they think of the TV wrestling, not the "gentlemanly" type of wrestling that, I hope is found in schools & colleges. And yes, he would have not made a very good coach of a "gentlemanly" style of wrestling, IMHO

Yes, there's Graeco-Roman wrestling and then there's "wrastlin." I'll take the former, thanks. If you want to be aggressive try American football or rugby.

Thank you for some thoughtful observations from one who knows the world of wrestling. I don't. But what you say makes a lot of sense. Perhaps few things in life are as one dimensional as Gym Jordan. Except, of course, t***p, AKA The Felony Defendant™. We can all be grateful for that.

THANK YOU, MARY TRUMP!! I went through the exact same experience as you reading the piece. I, too, in a state of disbelief, kept reading the piece despite myself, wondering WHAT IS POINT OF THIS, AND WHY NOW??!!

The best part of Mary Trump’s rant about the Jim Jordan puff-piece in the Washington Post is her shrug and “go figure” face at the end. The truth-is-stranger-than-fiction, Twilight Zone quality of the current majority party in Congress is summed up in that gesture. Mis/disinformation and all its cynical purveyors in the media, social and otherwise, is the likely cause.

As a legislator, Jordan was a fine college wrestler….

Does radical leftist actually mean a leftist that has succumbed to the temptations of the far right? It sounds as though you beat your kid, or you wish you had beaten your kid when he was much younger. It also sounds as though you wish you had a life that coincides with success based upon the punishments you force upon others. Am I wrong? I think not!

I read the article also. Like you, I scrolled through it at first and then actually read it. It is just another media, full of poor journalists, trying to make a buck, and knowing nothing about what they are writing about.

Thanks for the rant. It was good.
