Also, you unpack a few months of reality in a cogent way. The Republican Party is eating itself. An Ouroboros of stupidity, vapidity, and self-serving scams.

Thanks for this great and cogent compilation. Much to be hopeful about and to keep fighting for amongst the extremist chaos and backlash. Cool pic, too. Enjoy the upcoming speaker spectacle tonight!

Thank you, Mary, for your in-depth column and optimism.

I hope these next 2 years are not as bad as I fear.

It is important to hold the seditionists accountable and that is well underway.

We need to continue to Expect that, as it continues in the House. Do not turn the page.

Pelosi knows the rules and the recent concessions made by McArthy to the extremists who know little about rules or legislating. I understand those concessions are etched in stone now for this congress, making for daily clowning on camera. Stay Tuned.

The DOJ can pursue avenues

But why havent they? Lot of foot dragging.

Actual: Nearly 1000 indictments handed down from DOJ to seditionists on January 6.

Many in prison already. Some on Seditious Conspirary charges, very hard to prove. High conviction rate.

Proud Boys trial underway, would love to see the media cover that.

Q.Mark Meadows will be key, will he be offered a Plea Deal to lesson his sentence, in exchange for his boss?

Q. Will DOJ pursue the elected officials and DHS and DOD as well as those in intelligence, including the sketchy Secret Service?

last night, on the you tube episode of The Five 8, Allison Gill gave a cogent explanation for timelines regarding prosecutions. she explained the various processes re judges orders and evidence and etc. all that arcane process of the law that is taking time. it is worth watching. It doesn't make you feel any better as you watch traitors grab the reins of power in the Congress, but at least the reasons for the snail pace are understandable.

Mary, I think we are headed for a democratically dominated congress in the next years that will last as long as the 19th century Majority Lasted, Remember: FDR had Congressional Democratic Majority in Very Large Numbers, This Whole Maga Now Post Maga thing is gonna bring a larger majority and put The Republicans back where they belong. With The Jim Crow era they chose to put on a pedestal. As the younger Gens Mature this Right Wing Manifesto will destabilize and end. Have Faith In Gen Z!

Right on Mary! Tiny point -- item 8 on your list, really needs to include new york. As I see it the democratic party apparatus in both Florida and NY is in a shambles. I think it is not a case of national investment but local (dis)organization. A lot of competetive house districts were lost in both Fla and NY, for no good reason. I don't live in either state so I don't know exactly what is wrong but based on what happened in other states and the demographics of Fla and NY, something went wrong. Keep up your amazing work. This was another demonstration of just how extreme all of the Republican Party is. Not a single member chose to jump their vote across to Hakeem Jeffries rather than give their vote to the insurrectionists running the House now. This is horrific. This Republican House, with people who want to completely break a civilized government and to end spending for all causes other than the military, police and the filthy rich.

There is more to this than meets the eye. I sense the GOP game plan is just a reflection of something else. Maybe "a smoke and mirrors act" is a better description.

Thanks for the superb analyses. And I agree with the media should have aired Biden’s speech on democracy and should always provide explanatory journalism, not just horse races and polls. It’s a shame the Fairness Doctrine was scrapped so long ago.
