Trump and his MAGA cult Christian nationalist are the biggest danger to our country, our democracy and our constitution! Trump can never be allowed back into the WH!

You’ll never get everything want, so be pragmatic. Ask yourself, ‘Which candidate, Biden or trump, comes closest to giving me what I want?’

If what you want is the continuation of democracy, vote Blue.

If you want a theocracy led by white Christian nationalists, vote Red.

I've been encountering many uninformed people who practically scream that they can't stand to hear from the correct news reports or President Biden and I must blame it on the fact that Reagan eliminated the Fairness Doctrine and so many news reports are biased and a lot of people are uninformed about important matters. We must insist on a 21st Century Fairness Doctrine in order that the truth is spread for everyone to hear. That's what will solve the problem associated with the public not receiving the whole story, but it will not reach everyone because there are those people who insist on living in their own bubble and it'll take more to reach them. I'm hoping that a return of the Fairness Doctrine to news reporting will happen soon enough to correct the many who believe that they are on the correct path when they are on the biggest detour of their lives.

I totally forgot about the Fairness Doctrine & Reagan's part in its demise. I worked as a newspaper reporter from 2003 - 2010. It was a twice-weekly paper & we reported on the local news in our part of the county. We covered five towns - the largest town with 20,000 people & the smallest about 800 folks. We wanted to showcase our area & wrote stories accordingly. I covered cops & fire, county & city news, schools & the Umatilla Chemical Depot, which burned destroyed nearly 4,000 tons of chemical weapons, including GB rockets, VX munitions, and mustard gas starting in 2004. The depot's chemical weapons inventory included:

GB rockets: Containing sarin nerve agent, these munitions were destroyed by July 2007

VX munitions: Containing sarin nerve agent, these munitions were destroyed by November 2008

HD ton containers: Also known as "mustard" or blister agent, these containers were destroyed by October 2011

M-55 rockets: More than 106,000 rockets filled with sarin.

We were fair & balanced, which we still believed to be important in reporting the news. We need to bring the Fairness Doctrine back.

Destroyed but we all know there are many that have these toxic chemicals are here and in other countries.......it is just a given that destruction of it all is just an idiom.

Bringing the Fairness Doctrine back sounds good Unfortunately theory buy is misguided. There is too much misinformation and many people who mistrust major news orgs. This may have worked in the 1980s but there's no going back to what seems like a "better time."

The fact is the Republicants have made a concerted effort to use minority rule as a cudgel agaisnt the majority. They handily use misinformation to achieve their goals. Th Big Lie is the perfect example as a failure of a population who CHOOSES to believe in the lie versus the truth. The Fairness Doctrine would have never stopped this false belief from spreading. More radical measures are needed, such as holding tech giants and social media companies to account for their role in spreading misinformation.

Yes, yes, yes! Know the Truth and the Truth Shall Set you Free. Painful though it May be. Denial only Postpones the Inevitable. Mary has got it, Exactly. As anyone who lives with Complex PTSD knows. This is Exactly what it is to live with That Form (CPTSD) and of it how it manifests. Applicable to help us comprehend as Mary, a Qualified Psychologist is providing to help guide our nation to make knowledgeable, wise choices.

For Clarity, not everyone experiences the same form of PTSD. This is an important Fact to understand and respect. This doesn’t diminish or invalidate any other manifestations. All are challenges to live with worthy of Empathy and Healing.

Expand full comment

Ms. Fair, I could not disagree with you more. The danger and pain from PTSD is not that we "suppress", ignore and forget past trauma as the classically trained clinical Psychologists claim. The problem with PTSD is that we CANNOT forget what happed to us in the past. We cannot get it out of our thoughts and memories.

I love to read Ms. Mary Trump's words, as a rule. But this time she has missed the mark by far. In fact, I am surprised that she has it so backward this time. She usually hits the nail right on the head. Here she has made the same mistake most psychological reductionists make. It is easy to make. She slides into the morass of mistaking her metaphors for reality.

Metaphors are great for introducing neophytes to radically new ideas. But arguing by analogy is not a permissible syllogism in any system of logic. It is an informal error in logic.

Expand full comment

Actually one is a symptom (can’t let go) and the other a coping strategy (suppression). Both are involved in PTSD (and more). Mary Trump is calling out the coping strategy that is often the first “go to” - denial - in dealing with what feels overwhelming.

Marijo, thank you so much for your clarification. It is something I should have seen as I earned my BS in Psychology. But that was well over half a century ago, and I have since turned my attention in other academic directions. As I said, I was surprised that Dr. Trump apparently missed the mark. It seems she did not. I simply was not aware of the other half of the paradigm. My apologies to her.

I was thinking the other day that it must be easier, on a superficial level, to be those people who are ready to vote for Trump, who don’t spend time thinking about the recent past, who don’t feel pain when they see the suffering of others. So here we are, remembering, feeling, fearing what could very well be in our near future.

And we are not giving up or giving in. We’re not. We cannot! Taking breaks is essential, enjoying life is imperative, and we can still do that without looking away. We can still do our part to get ourselves out of this morass.

Thank you for your insight.

I sympathize with you. Many of us do suffer from watching the country go down the drain when the Republican Criminal Organization treats the majority of the American people with contempt when it behaves as an authoritarian dictatorship passing laws that affect the least of us who are unable to resist or fight back, but we're going to fight when the election in November rolls around and the young men and especially the women who have been disinfranchized with the abortion ban as a part of their healthcare will hopefully vote for the Democratic party and Biden and it's going to take a bit of time and soon enough matters will change for the better. Of this I must believe because I love my country and it needs our help to restore civility to the government after Donald Trump is not a threat any longer and hopefully behind bars for a long enough term that he will be forgotten along with his MAGA GOP.

The Orange Trump is a chaos agent - however, his chaotic behavior of late is demented, in the medical sense. Fred. Sr. had dementia; Donald eats a dementia-inducing ultra processed food diet exclusively. Thus genes and foul diet can explain his evident mental decline. Trump’s supporters are impervious to any information that contradicts their worship of him. Either they won’t even watch the debates or they’ll deny that Trump is showing signs of dementia (they already deny what so many of the rest of us perceive, even if most of us aren’t physicians or psychologists).

I live in a NYC liberal bubble, but a few friends are Trump supporters. They are long-time friends or I or my partner would drop them. They are highly-intelligent people, otherwise. Unlike most of my friends, they are quite well-to-do. Maybe their economic security helps them keep their blinders on about Trump, even though he and Republicans are very bad for our economy (inasmuch as any president and political party can affect our economy). Nothing any one can say to counter their beliefs does anything, so we’ve given up arguing.

I just hope that everyone who sees how terrifying our future will be under Trump or his thugs will vote for Biden and blue down the ballot — no matter what Biden has done in the Middle East or that he’s not on the Left. Just in case, however, be sure to update your passports (IF we’re allowed to flee the country, and if we are able to).

Your comment regarding why you decided to end arguing with the well-off Trump supporters caught my attention! They fear losing their perceived freedom, social status and money! In fact we all know when your fellow Americans do well, rich, poor, middle class. we all do better. The well-off may call that socialism! A curse word to them! I call it common sense and very hard to achieve in a manner that pleases everyone. So I remind them of the things our taxes pay for…. mail delivery, trash removal, public education, and so much more to make life better for the middle class and the working poor, etc., thereby making their own lives better. Less crime for one. I recall during COVID, the workers who not only took the virus as a fight for life itself, none-the-less, masked up and kept 6ft. distance, kept on keeping on and working for their salary causing little inconvenience to the well-off.

I've gotten COVID twice- once in June 2022 and again in March 2023- and the second time has affected me in horrible ways. I've been vaccinated and boosted a total of 5 times (the max allowed for a 53 year old). I gained weight (I'm also going through perimenopause), have no energy and my concentration levels are lower than ever before. Also, I'm a lesbian who has felt unsafe in this country (even as a Chicago, IL resident) for almost seven years because of the hate and vitriol (and the rolling back of rights for trans people in half of this country) directed at my community. This is on top of half of the states rolling back repro rights. I've lost detailed memories of most of the past nine years because Donald has robbed this country of our natural political rhythms. I'm convinced that the reason voters can't differentiate between 2020 when Donald was still in the WH and there was no vaccine and Biden's almost four year term as President is because Donald won't fucking disappear from the political landscape and he and his MAGA traitor minions keep lying to everyone every single day. He's a vicious cancer (yes I went there) on the entire global population. I have no allegiance to the USA, only my city and state, right now because even many of the Congressional Dems are failing us. I'm so terrified about November and that's caused me to check out of most of the news coverage to protect my mental health. I've dropped my news consumption, which was a lot before, in half. I watch PBS Sunday night dramas and K-dramas (among other entertainment TV) to escape. This is how I'm coping. It's still not enough.
