A friend was in the air with her baby (unvaccinated) and her young child with diabetes 1. She NEVER would have flown with them if she knew that midway through flight to Minneapolis- in air; the pilot cheered that everyone could remove their masks. It’s horrendous that this judge did this and the airlines immediately got rid of protective measures ppl counted on prior to purchasing tickets. This variant has been a lot harder on kids and it’s often grave for people with diabetes (neither child old enough to be vaccinated). And she cannot afford to contract COVID on that plane or in the airport or in the Uber home or she can’t take care of these at risk babies. HOW is this ‘who we are’ as human beings?

You have perfectly expressed my anger at the selfishness of the anti-maskers, who have made Covid stick around and mutate and have caused especially the medically fragile to remain hermits and avoid human contacts and hugs in order to stay alive.

John Pavlovitz said recently on Twitter: "People who lack human empathy will never know how difficult it is for people of empathy to live alongside them."

As a clinician, how would you feel about renaming it the Malignant Narcissism Party? Maybe the APA could add membership in the Republican party to the diagnostic criteria for some personality disorders.

Hope you feel better soon, Mary!

I've found that a great antidote to the latest insanity has been the viral video of Michigan State Senator Mallory McMorrow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iLWo8B1R0MY

She is speaking up in the way I hope all decent, sane, progressive people will as she calls out the sheer hatred spewed by Republicans. She has really struck a nerve.

I'm a redhead who was born in Michigan who can't stand BS, so I can't help but feel totally inspired by Sen. McMorrow. She's an industrial designer, too, which I think is so cool. Government needs that kind of grounded, practical, empathetic, creative mindset.

Sorry to be sounding like a "Human of the Week" pitch; it really has helped me feel a bit more hope just to hear such an impassioned, brilliant take down of her Senate colleague.

Hope Linden feels better soon, too!

Thank you Mary for your rant . I’ve been watching not posting as much

In my community we are organizing getting young people to register to vote . Holding our own strategy session Printing brochures that educate voters we are literally spending our own money

We take turns in the early hours of the morning doing mass mailings as well as handing out flyers

I will donate a portion of my finances to your cause

In another community out in the suburbs our community will meet up there and discuss targeted ways to get the message out There’s plenty of work no matter how big or small Were up against a cult of right wing fascist

The only way I see this being a successful ground campaign is on messaging education whole communities roiling into one movement to get out to vote To push back in the face of all the lies and hate directed at all who don’t support their ideology. Feel better Mary your an integral part along with all the strategists for this movement Love your energy and how you are so focused in a micro analytic way Sebastian sure had a lot to chime in on last night podcast.

Stay positive everyone for a Brave New Hope !! Stay safe and continue to wear a mask🌹

The judge was judged unqualified to judge. Trump was unqualified to be president as were his children unqualified to be in positions of power. It is the duty of the media to showcase these facts but they seem unqualified to do so. President Zelensky might have been deemed unqualified by detractors but he has proven that he can lead. I live in a country where people continue to wear the masks because it has held down deaths. With 1/3 the U.S. population, the country is approaching 30,000 deaths. People are aware of the difference. Where is the U.S. media to highlight these figures?

Thank you, Mary, for your beautiful picture.

I hope Linden gets better. I hope you feel better after your covid booster shot.

While I enjoyed and learned much from your last night's YouTube podcast, I wish Jordy and Ben spoke more.

I hope the CDC mask mandate gets reinstated!

Have a good night, too, Mary!

By the logic of this esteemed jurist, smoking bans on planes and public transportation are also probably illegal………

Mary: Thank you for a wonderful and necessary piece! I too, am saddened by the national selfishness, but not surprised. In essence, Donald made it appropriate to be selfish and narcissistic. We now see it nationally. He’s coursened the country and our society and brought unfortunate issues to the surface. We know now openly what they are, and can work on improving them if we can; otherwise, Putin gets his wish, and we fail as did the Soviet Union. I worry for the country.🇺🇸

Thank you, Mary. I can’t for the life of me understand the airlines going mask free mid flight. It’s outrageous & likely endangered vulnerable passengers unnecessarily.

I remain in shock as my understanding of the selfish nature of so many in our country grows and grows. You know, I'm selfish too. I enjoy my lifestyle and fully participate in the White Privilege Economy. What am I doing to make a difference? Thank you Mary, because you sure are.

You are right about the selfishness. But, I don’t think it is a new thing. I think human beings are wired in a way that a certain percentage of any given population will always be narcissistic and selfish. From the beginning of this pandemic, the temper tantrums over mask wearing has been a window into the awfulness of so many people. That is who they are and who they have always been. They now had an opportunity to show us.
