I just wrote this :

THEY DON'T WANT US TO SAY GAY

They don't want us to say Gay

Lesbian , Bi , Trans, or Q

We can't talk about it in school

But here's what we CAN do .

We can support friends and family

With all our love and grace

Show them that we care

And give them a safe space .

We can be there for them

Each and every single day

But the best thing we can do

Is to keep on saying Gay .

good one :)

considering 25% of adults are presumed to be LGBTQ, I would think Floridians would shut down DeSantis. I am very surprised there are not more street protests

I had a brother who was gay. Kindest man you you could ever meet. Not with us anymore. But he did make this world a Better Place💜

Florida's "Don't Say Gay" law is an absolute abomination. I won't spend another penny in the State if I can help it, and Disney's silence on the legislation is absolutely despicable. It may be a corporate giant in terms of earnings and wealth, but it is tiny indeed when it comes to doing the moral or right thing.

"Don't Say Gay" sounds like something a child would ask just to be contrarian. Makes no sense really.

WOW! Riveting, heart-pumping staccato pace communique! I am left breathless for a moment while I digest the huge quantity of information - even with your exquisite clarity these snapshots of all that is swirling and whirling in our world, our lives will take the rest of the day to digest! THANK YOU - i APPRECIATE YOU!

I couldn’t have said it better. Mary gave us a snapshot with more clarity then any one could. Thank you Mary

I am happy to be nonbinary. I am grateful to be able to claim my self and to live my life openly. It isn't always easy when old friends start to let go. BUT... those who are still with me are the best in my life.

I so appreciate you and making the time to help keep us all informed and motivated to make a positive difference in this chaotic world that I no longer recognize. I’m in Austin, Texas and a precinct chair and trying to wake people up to step up and do something to help. All of my friends are Democrats but I am starting to see the sad truth that most Democrats won’t step up, they barely vote, they are pretty much politically illiterate. If you ask any Texan, “who is your State Senator?”, 99% of the time they answer Ted Cruz or John Cornyn. I say, “no that’s your US Senator and then they get a glazed look on their faces and admit they don’t keep up with Texas politics. So, how can we be a strong United front fighting for democracy when most logical, moderate or progressive leaning Texans are politically illiterate and completely unaware of what’s happening? I can’t get my smart, successful friends to come to a fundraiser or a voter’s rights rally. They are so self-involved… I feel hopeless about Texas right now… only 8% voted in my county in the primary… The far right and their corruption should absolutely be condemned, but equally responsible are the people who choose to live with their heads in the sand. I wish I knew what to do. But Thank you again - you always give me hope, strength and insight.

The numbers may vary by state, but what you said is unfortunately true. For progressive people, Democrats ignore the opportunities to make their voice heard. Voting is a privilege known to precious few in this world.

I really appreciated the info on “Anti Grooming.” I had not heard that before. It stunned me. They name their hatred! What small minds these people have. Children usually choose the path of least resistance. Why can’t they just believe them? Thanks Mary. Keep up the good work!

Us parents of gay children were already worried enough. The hatred and lack of empathy is the most saddening to me. Also, GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

Maureen, I received an email in my inbox yesterday with a notice of reply comment from you, but when I tried to view/respond to it here, it was gone. I'm going to guess I accidentally did something because I'm a tech dummy, but wanted you to know that I did see it and am sorry for what you experienced. I'm so glad that you found your way - it's never too late to accept and love yourself! I really appreciate what you bring to this space.

Another ridiculous proposal by the people who want to ignore the rights of people who have the God given right to stand up for their lives . The dark ages are gone!!! The younger generations will prevail over these dinosaurs that still live among us! I am so ashamed of my generation that there are so many still living in the past. Wake up! We are all human and all have to respect other people REGARDLESS of their belief.

Happy International Women's Day to everyone! Thank you for compiling all of this information, Mary. So much greed, narcissism, insecurity, and fear on display, especially by the Republicans. Plus incompetence (or complicity? not sure exactly) by the media. Like a couple others mentioned, I wasn't aware of the Florida spokeswoman's reference to "anti-grooming." Sounds reminiscent of Anita Bryant - wasn't she also from Florida? So parents who seek gender affirming and supportive treatment for trans children are child abusers, and teachers who discuss sexual orientation or gender identity are groomers/pedophiles. Nice. I recognize these sentiments never went away or fully changed despite the gains that have been made by/on behalf of the LGBTQ community, but to see formalization of them again via law is infuriating and despicable. Thanks for including VP Harris' quote from Alabama this week - I'll choose to focus on that and the need for the majority of us to stick together and march on. Oh, and absofuckinglutely GAY, GAY, GAY! (Pardon the language, but it seems warranted).
