Thanks for another awesome musical reverie. As a classically-trained musician raised in a christian austrian immigrant family & educated at a christian university, and thrived and survived it all, still I feel that I will always be catching up to understand how the other 99% lives in the popular culture, and that they live well! With interest and color and nuance! Thanks for these wonderful takes that clearly contribute to my ongoing experience of music which is The Best Thing in the World!

I am not new to Liz Phair. I think she is amazing and not given enough air play and credit. Her song Extraordinary is truly my anthem. As a 64yo woman driving down the street blasting that song and singing for the world to hear, it makes me thankful for Liz Phair.

I hope everyone who is new to Liz Phair reports back after they listen. Give it a few spins first though. It might be surprising now, but back then it was bananas. I was in college, in Chicago, when she made this (masterpiece). I’d often see her at this one cafe. It’s the soundtrack to many adventures for me. A dessert album even.

Thanks for this! I saw her in 1993 and she kindly scribbled her autograph on the back of my Troubadour ticket stub. She was great.

Thanks for posting music reviews amongst the political posts. They are refreshing. I fondly remember when Phair appeared on the music scene in the early 90s. I really liked her vocal style then. I liked the new song you posted too, her writing has maintained her clever turn of words.

I’ve never heard of her either - something new to explore! Gonna have to listen to the first one a few times more. 😉 The second one gave me a chuckle (not because it’s funny, but out of relatability), and I like the third from Soberish. Thanks for the intro to this artist!

Wow. Especially like Divorce Song and The Game. 90’s for me was teaching, raising three teens and hearing many punk bands in our house, but no Liz Phair. Thank you!

Mary, Liz Phair is amongst Many Women Artists Coming in Nineties that better defined the decade's art, Alanis Morissette being The Superstar Of These, but I clearly remember Liz Phair Being in This Group, Liz is very atmospheric, churning, tight and expressive in a lighter way then her contemporaries, Great Pick, Laura Nyro's changes in Music as played used to ANNOY me, but in very same texture Liz Phair is lovely, consummate! Much More Satisfying, This Must Be A Generational Thing lol

Thank you for Liz Phair! Also new to me-I’m working in my studio tomorrow and plan to stream her music and get to know it. Loving your selections!

Anyone else have their darned autocorrect try to change Phair to Pharisees? Jeez!

You talk about music a lot, and being a former music librarian, I understand that music molds our lives. My sacred album is Madonna’s “Ray of Light.” It was a time of spiritual growth for her as it was for me. She went into Hindu and I into Buddhism. The album immediately felt familiar and exhilarating. The William Orbit palette worked perfectly. It is definitely her best album. It heals while it entertains.
