Journalists and media orgs should know by now what comments Trump will bring to the interview. It would be simple to have the fact checking references at hand to dispute his crazy responses. My best example would be to have the pertinent facts of the Presidential Records Act at hand to trash his idea it protects him.
I was one of those who thought the Meet the Press interview with Georgia defendant PO1135809 was a good interview, until I read your Substack, and thought to myself “Yes, Mary is right. Catch him in his first lie, and his second, and his third. Get him uncertain and furious. Get him to show what he really is. But he's so quick at lying, it's hard to catch him. The media has to hold him accountable at his first lie. Tough to do because every word out of his mouth is a lie.

Removed the record series for Meet the Press this morning ... and I didn't watch it. I hope if others did not watch or record it, NBC will get the message that they screwed up.
This was a taped interview. So, why couldn't they do a POP-UP video kind of fact checking. With thought bubbles that explain the lie. It would make the show more interesting. The only thing more exciting would be for trump's pants to explode in flames.
The problem continues to be the misguided ethic of the political media in Washington and New York that dictates "balance," as if it is possible for anyone to be without bias. Of course, the more that political journalists twist themselves into knots in an effort to do the both-sides dance, the more they play into the Republican's disinformation routine and confuse information consumers.
Donald Trump is a master manipulator. The only way to deal with him, from a journalist's perspective, is to call him on every misleading comment, every lie, and every allegedly unlawful action. And if he won't grant any more interviews to an outlet that does that, well, okay. The job of a journalist is to report truth, not maintain access. Besides, rarely is it necessary to have a politician comment on their own actions in order to present a factually accurate report on those actions.
The Meet the Press interviewer, like so many others, fell prey to her desire to avoid any hint of being "unfair." By doing so, she fell right into the trap of letting Trump deceive, as he has done so often.
Mary, keep up the good work! We all have to get together to make sure that your uncle, the greatest liar in the world, never set foot again in the White House. And we can only do that by help making our citizens go out and cast their votes.
Why aren't our interviewers our "best brightest" journalists that are assigned to combat a known liar like Trump. Should've been anticipated. I did... The interviewer & crew should've been prepared to fact-check, and as Mary said, fact-check in real time. Or at least after as it was pre-recorded. I lost much of my admiration and trust in CNN after watching that interview.
Much of the the media seem to be constantly out manipulated by your uncle. Likely because the media refuse to allow the fact that its been pointed out by many mental health professionals, such as yourself, that he’s a malignant narcissistic psychopath and quite unqualified for any position, to be mentioned anywhere in public. It’s ignored. They consider him like he was a normal human.
They also tend to ignore the Constitution’s 14th Amendment Section 3 that makes it impossible to serve in any position in government.
The media can be blamed for his political power because its news and profit for them. What else sells like the nonsense he spews out?
