my friend and I knocked on Joni's door, in '71! his dad owned a home right above Joni she could kind of hear us from her place when we were playing loud on da Canyon! We knocked on the door and she was wearing a pants suit, low heels, and her hair was up.. She was on her way to record at A&M.
my cousin was publisher there so that was our playground but not exactly at that time more like in 74 so we knocked on her door two more times! She was still recording and on her way but the third time she let us in..we stayed for a while and then we found out that our friend Danny was at the session with her watching her play electric guitar on Blue!
Sneaky Pete was playing steel guitar and imitating that jet sound on 'this flight tonight' What a world! When I took off for Hawaii, that was on my headphones I couldn't believe my life! What a world! AlohaZ
Joni Mitchell's music helped me understand life as I was growing up. I love "Urge for Going", "Chelsea Morning" and "Both sides now" and many others. So many emotions in times of my life are in her songs.
Joni Mitchells is unmatched in her talent musically artistically and technically. I'm still listening to her genius collection after my first introduction to her as a teenager in the 70s.. When their work still resonates with the beauty and brilliance that it did when it was first released five and six decades ago. There is nothing more powerful than the combination of words and music of Joni Mitchell. She is brilliance personified. "Court and Spark" is an album that I have never stopped listening to since 1974. I play it every week in it's entirety and it's a work of staggering genius.
There are only a handful of artists from that era that one can actually describe as invaluable and genius. Paul Simon is the only other individual who I consider as talented and as a singer songwriter his contribution as important as Joni Mitchell What I wouldn't give to see them collaborate.
Tom Rush’s “Urge for Going” hooked me in 1968 on the song, on the album “The Circle Game” (which I still have ) on Tom Rush (I am a lifelong fan and hopelessly tried to copy his guitar playing.) I fell hard for Joni Mitchell that same year. Coincidentally, hours after reading your post, I got in my car and the song playing on the radio was “Chelsea Morning.). Very inspiring.
When Joni talks about her place in Canada, it's just a few miles up the road from where I live. I have lived here 13 years but have yet to have a "Joni sighting". She is often seen around town and even popped into a small lunch place one day where there was live entertainment to listen.
We all needed a respite, whether we realized it or not! Thank you for that and for all your insight into this nutz-o world we are living in. Oh, I played guitar too back in the 1960s too. 🤪
