I’ll look for it. As I said it hadn’t come up before - or since. I don’t believe he’s ever far from you, for what that’s worth. I’ve had the experience of sitting with my son while he was on life support. My closest cousin lost her daughter at 20. These things.

You’re strong. He sees you.

Your Dad was clearly the best of the trump children. Much better looking than Donald as well.

I discovered my parents 78s in the early 1960s. I recall listening to some but when we were forced out of our homestead in 1969 after the city took our land under eminent domain, I don’t recall what happened to those nice old 78s. I have my collection of 33s. I need a new stereo system. Im not so occupied since I became a songwriter (a sideline) and I’m more interested working my own songs. Music has always been that glue that bonds families and pre-electric days when song was almost the only form of entertainment. The Troubadour that traveled from town to town. It was rewarding for me to be hired to perform at the very plot of land my original family’s house sat on during their harvest festival late year.

I lost my dad almost a year ago (Oct 5). I really miss him - way more than I anticipated I would. Does it get better?

Ignore typos. My memory doesn’t go back to the 1040s, only the 1940s.

I’m much older than you so I can’t be surprised that you are wrong about 78s. In my memory they go back to the 1040s. I don’t know what they where made of but during my childhood in the 1950s, they broke easily. I know from personal experience. They had music on both sides. In the mid 50s they were replaced by albums (33 rpms) that were vinyl and had many songs on both sides. Then came 45s, smaller with large whole so you could stack them and play in order automatically. Then th

May your Dad rest in peace 🕯️

I lost my Dad to alcoholism as well, he was 49, in 1990.

You, Mary, are one of my modern day heroes- you are courageous.

Every single song you mentioned are in my top ten songs, especially Shilo and Brooklyn Roads.

My Dad played “Beautiful Loser” and “Turn The Page” by Bob Seger constantly in his car.

He’d buy us a flat of cherries from the fruit stand, hose them down, put them in the car and tell us to spit the seeds out while he drove us through the vineyards in Lodi, Ca. blasting Bob Seger and Ray Charles.

"Kisses Sweeter Than Wine" was a big hit by Jimmy Rodgers while I was in high school. I didn't discover the Weavers until shortly after I graduated.

Love the Weavers. Kisses Sweater... is in my head but I cannot call up the name of the male vocalist.

Pete Seeger, female vocalist was Ronnie Gilbert, also Lee Hays, Fred Hellerman.

I have a couple of their CDs but Jimmie Rodgers is the vocalist I hear in my ear.

That's not a bad thing to hear but in this song it is Pete Seeger. I have been a folk music devotee since the late 50's and still love them all. I adore Ronnie Gilbert's voice and also followed her later in life popularity with singers such as Holly Near.

Sounds like Pete Seeger.

He fits but methinks it was another vocalist. Identity may wake me up from slumber eventually.

Jimmie Rodgers!! And yes Peter Paul and Mary too.

To add... check out the version of 'Kisses Sweeter than Wine' by Jackson Browne with Bonnie Raitt. I find it to be the most palatable... actually I like it..🙂
