I quit Twitter and officially deactivated my account when Musk abjectly threatened Anthony Fauci who was the only sane voice in the room when this pandemic which is now getting really bad again three years later - began. I will not be a part of a platform that won’t pay bills, won’t pay severance, allows racism, Antisemitic remarks and conspiracy theories to flourish and allowed DT back on (regardless if the £~££~€| comes back). I’m not running in fear. I’m leaving because the platform now makes me nauseous and embarrassed and humiliated to be associated with in any way. I hope it ceases to be. I hope others will join me. Twitter is not ‘the’ public square. There should be many squares and a better platform that actually encourages thoughtful, edited conversations will emerge. Several already have.

I hear you, Mary. I've hung on this far with Twitter. I don't want to leave - it's been good to me, as have the people I've met on there. And it's been the reason my newsletter grew so quickly this year. But this is getting intolerable. Musk is a quite unbelievably petty fascist man-baby at this point, and I can't see how it's going to stabilise anytime soon while he's tantruming away at the top of the ladder...

Free speech my magnificent British ass.

I'm going down with the USS Twitter, but I have an account on Post as a alternative.

You'd fit in well with the other journalists and smart people, Mary.

And, thank you for all you do!

I'm weighing my options as well. However, suspending journalists is a ch......n sh.t move on Elon's part. If he wants to come after me, It won't silence me. I've built my follower list carefully over 5 years & teamed with others to tweet each day about the importance of voting, where to vote, how to vote, & how to join the voting support networks. Your energy, integrity & written word are an inspiration to all of us. Thank you so much for your courage & leadership. We need you!

Mary, I hope you’ll consider jumping over to Post and adding your much needed voice there. I’m a newbie (two weeks in), but liking it a lot. Still in beta-phase, but it’s getting better every day...the operators/designers really seem to LISTEN, and are being careful about content moderation. If you join, I’d love to get a hello from you, I’m at: https://post.news/cdmatthewmurphy. Thanks for all you do!

Clearly this is constant continuing attempt to suffocate opposition just like being done with voter suppression tactics. Republicans have no intention to participate in the fair and foundational debates and compromises that are pillars of Democracy. For Republicans, Democracy is an impediment to gaining raw autocratic power.

If you’re going to go down, I think you found the perfect way to do it.

Funny Elon touts “Free Speech” when it’s someone else being offended! Wish we could get back to being big girls & boys and stop the sand box stuff.

The latest Elon stunt of suspending journalists helped me decide and I deactivated my account. I am enjoying Post.news. Many of the people I followed on the blue bird are on Post. Mary, you’ve been awfully silent here on Substack.

Come to Mastodon, Mary. So many of the best of Twitter contributors have. Thank you for all that you do and have done!

They did me a favor when they permanently suspended me for (among other things) telling Don Jr he should be somewhere having a hunting accident. I have found other ways of keeping up with people I followed, so no great loss.

I set up a Mastodon account and am really enjoying it and have no regrets at deactivating Twitter, and removing the app from my mobile devices. I am also on Post and enjoying it considering it is still in beta. Very promising. But Mastodon, using the Metatext app, works really well for me.
