James k. Lambert comments on conspiracy theorists:

"I’m just sick of deal with rude, willfully ignorant people, and explaining the same things over and over again, only to be met with more nonsense. To paraphrase Jonathan Swift, the author of Gulliver’s Travels, “You cannot reason people out of something they were not reasoned into.” When people are emotionally invested in their belief systems it is exceedingly difficult to get through to them or chart a course around their defenses with facts and logic."

Thank you, Mary, for your post.

I thought your interview tonight with Charlie Pierce was excellent.

I will miss Eric Boehlert. Several months ago, I started subscribing to his Press Run newsletter.

I visited your website, https://www.democracydefensefund.com/ . I hope to learn more about your new project.

Decades ago, a friend back in Arizona, an old country lawyer, used to put it this way: "The truth doesn't give a damn whether you believe it or not. It just sits there grinning at you, being true."

Both siderism drives me up a wall. Why do supposedly intelligent people ( like Judy Woodruff for example) think that "fair" and " balanced" are somehow equivalent? With extremist narcissists, that boomerangs. I have to go through my button box and find my "It's been lovely, but I have to scream now." button. So glad Rachel Maddow will be back, if only for a while. I hope she plans to work on longer investigative features that crack open the patriarchy.

On the bright side, the EU hand delivering an Eu application to Zelinskyy and telling him " We know you're fighting for us and we won't take more than a few weeks," or similar words. And Ketanji Brown ( "Presidents are not kings") Jackson! The weighted blanket lifted a bit.

Wonderful to listen to you and Charles Pierce, a journalist in the true sense of the word. Binary facts --- I blame a load of the nonsense in the GOP with Kelly Ann Conway when she countered truth with "alternative facts." Common sense flew out the window. A duck walking down the street with a man on its back became viable. The Democrats need an equivalent personality. I thought AOC would be perfect, but her life became endangered with death threats and public ridicule by old men -- not respect. Don't think that happened to Kelly Ann. The Left needs someone as outrageous and fast with a retort. This doesn't need to be nice or sensible, just attention getting.

Basic philosophy courses in logic and reasoning need to be taught in high school. Then maybe we would have a population of more careful thinkers.

For some reason, I am more disturbed by the European friends, graduates of Oxford and Sorbonne, who are apparently so entertained by "obscure internet science" that, even tho they cannot stand trumpism are parroting and following the anti-vax pro-ivermectin narrative. "Oh, we both got covid on the train from Paris to Biarritz..." ( Well of course you did, because you don't have a drop of vaccine in you...and then you likely spread it to countless others as well!). Interestingly the two women I have in mind, one British in Barcelona, the other French living in Biarritz, both have sons who mistrust the governments and reject the vaccine on that basis and the Russian propagated " fake science." And have abandoned their own womanly wisdom. Where is my " It's been lovely but I have to scream now" button?
