Mary, most days I am overwhelmed with the jackassery happening in our country. I’ve tried to see the world through the eyes of a MAGA Republican, and I cannot. In order to even entertain those thoughts, I would have to believe that my presence and my choices on this planet hold more value and importance than anyone else, no matter what. I would need to live my life based on entitlement, greed, and intolerance. I would have to be willing to lie, cheat, steal to remain on top, loyal only to myself. I would have to rationalize all of this in order to quash my conscience. But I could never do that, not ever. And the fact that so many people can, is simply overwhelming to me. 😞
I’ve kept up my daily walking of 10,000 steps which I introduced to my granddaughter visiting from Denmark. 🇩🇰 She told me about a book she is writing and the places and people we visited when I go to see her. We shared books, watched movies on TV, and had dinners brought to us from restaurants. We had a great time. We talked about sex and my being non-binary. She was very pleased and told me that she likes men but will never marry one. She’s the only family member who talks to me.♥️🐈⬛📚
After reading the NYT this morning I felt exactly like that. One has to actively do things so that one doesn't get overwhelmed and depressed. There's a German saying "Geteiltes Leid ist halbes Leid", meaning something like "shared misery is easier to carry/ only half as heavy". Good to know that many feel this way.
I watch old Westerns. The scenery and music kept me hooked over the years but the action and dialog reiterate how we got where we are and are the reason I've dubbed America's angry white men as "lost cowboys". They truly are!
I wholeheartedly agree Mary. I spent today binge-watching the final season of A Discovery of Witches myself. I'm planning on resuming my bike rides along Chicago's Lake Michigan pedestrian paths this coming week to help clear my head.
